Obviously you can self-cater - the kitchens are all well equipped with oven, hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, etc.
The farmer's wife, Andreina, who lives nearby will cook for you as well - usually an amazing meal with antipasto of home cured prosciutto and salami, home-made pasta, a main course with their own lamb, chicken or wild boar shot by her husband, Bruno - followed by a traditional sweet and espresso coffee. The quantities are usually enough to provide you with lunch the day after as well. The cost is about 25 to 30 euros per person - similar to a restaurant meal without the need to drive. Local restaurants are good and varied. Il Sovrano is good value and only a few minutes drive away. Not much further, in Sant'Anatolia.is the Convento di Santa Croce, a recently restored old Convent which is beautiful - the food is excellent and well-served too. In Scheggino, 10 minutes away, there is the very popular Locanda Valcasana beside the trout farm lake. Trout is, of course, a peciality here and the prices are very reasonable. They also do excellent pizzas. In Spoleto there are many excellent restaurants, my own special choices are the Tempio del Gusto just by the Arch of Drusus and La Macchia (good pizza here too) which is just outside Spoleto (turn right at the roundabout by Conad then take a right turn after a few hundred metres at the sign. Dei Pini is a left turn just before the right turn to La Macchia but you will need to book at weekends as the Italians love to eat here - a fixed price (about 20 euros) including water & wine and a good choice of dishes A new restaurant on the old road to Spoleto is also good, the Bellavista is about 1km before you get to Spoleto on the right hand side. Further away you have a choice of many excellent restaurants in Spoleto and the surrounding areas. |
